ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Nearly 2,200 diarrhea cases registered in eastern Kunar province in the past two weeks, an official said on Monday.
Public Health Director Qari Muzafar Mukhlis told Pajhwok Afghan News: “About 2,198 cases of diarrhea surfaced in the Ghaziabad, Naari, and Shultan districts, but fortunately no patient has died.”
Without giving further details, he said the main cause of the diarrhea spread was the recent flash floods.
The disease had been curtailed and it was no more a matter of concern, mobile medical teams had been sent to the affected areas, he added.
He said with the cooperation of international charitable organizations, he launched public awareness diarrhea hit areas, distributed chlorine and soaps to the people for the purpose of health protection.
On the other hand, the residents of this province believed that the main reason for the spread of this disease was the lack of clean drinking water and they wanted the government to provide clean water to the people of the remote areas.
Hayauddin, a resident of Ghaziabad district, said: “Five members of my family were infected with diarrhea. We sent them to the district health center for treatment. Fortunately, they recovered after being hospitalized for three days.”
He said, due to the recent floods, the clean water system has been damaged in many areas and the government needs to provide these facilities to the people of the remote areas.
At the same time, Education department official of Ghaziabad district Maulvi Abdul Basir Farooqi said that in the last one week, 920 students and 60 teachers infected by diarrhea.
He added that mobile health teams arrived from the center and controlled the situation.
The people of Kunar were already worried that the local people in this province would suffer from various diseases due to the recent continuous floods.
