KABUL (Pajhwok): Former President Hamid Karzai has expressed deep concern over the escalation of clashes in central Panjshir province, according to a statement on Friday
He said the past experiences showed that fighting was not an option to resolve problems but it caused more destruction and generated miseries.
In a statement, the former president regretted the continuation and escalation of the conflict in Panjshir province and expressed his deep concern about the continuation of bloodshed and fratricide in the country.
“The bitter experiences of the past had shown that war and bloodshed were not the solutions to problems, but on the contrary, they cause more damage and destruction,” the statement from his office quoted him as saying.
While stressing over halt to ongoing conflict, the former president considered dialogue and reconciliation as the only solution to the existing problems and emphasized maintaining and strengthening national unity and harmony.
He believed that the caretaker Islamic government beard the greatest responsibility in the current situation, to provide the ground for national discourse as soon as possible to ensure lasting peace and stability in the country.
Earlier, the Islamic Emirate Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that 40 National Resistance Front (NRS) fighters had been killed and over a hundred injured in northern Panjsher province.
While Sibghatullah Ahmdi, the NRS spokesperson, confirmed the killing of its 11 fighters and the injury of four others.
He claimed 71 Taliban were killed and 13 others injured during recent clashes in Panjsher.
