ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Funded by the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF), two water supply projects were inaugurated in Nari district of the eastern Kunar province on Tuesday.
Sham Rahman Selab, the Rural Rehabilitation and Development director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the water supply projects consumed over $82,000 and were put into service in Zaro Kats and Muslimabad areas of Nari district.
Both the projects have the capacity to store 10,000 metric tons of water and supply it to 29,000 residents, Selab said.
The residents are thrilled to have access to clean drinking water.
Ghulam Mohammad, a resident of Muslimabad area, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Hundreds of families had no access to clean water, they were using the river and streams water which caused the children and elders different diseases”.
Haji, a resident of Zaro Kats area, said the projects were not sufficient because residents of other areas also lacked access to clean and healthy water. He asked the government and other relevant welfare institutions to carry out such water supply and solar projects in other areas as well.
According to the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department, similar projects have been completed in some other areas as well, benefitting thousands of people.
