KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): An elderly man tried to commit suicide by cutting his throat with a knife in Spin Boldak district of southern Kandahar province, but his family members got informed and took him to hospital.
Kandahar governor’s house spokesman Haji Zaid told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place on Thursday morning in Samezo village. The 70-year-old man, identified as Haji Khairullah, wanted to kill himself, but his family members intervened and took him to hospital in injured condition.
He said the white-bearded man was currently under treatment and out of danger. Haji Zaid said initial investigation showed the elderly man suffered from mental illness and that was why he tried to commit suicide.
Pajhwok tried to seek comments of the relatives of the man, but did not succeed.
Recently, suicide cases have increased in various provinces of the country due to mental illnesses, economic, social and other problems.
