TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Health centers in central Uruzgan province have received medicines and medical equipment worth 34 million afghanis and 36 vaccinators were given motorcycles, an official said on Monday.
Uruzgan Public Health Director Dr. Mohammadullah Rohani told Pajhwok Afghan News that 56 health centers received medicines and equipment worth 34 million afghanis from the welfare organization “Move.” He said vaccinators received 36 motorcycles from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
He said the charity provided 340 types of medicine and 27 types of medical equipment to 56 health centers which had been in need of these medicines and equipment for a long time. The supplies would improve services at the facilities.
Rohani said UNICEF provided 36 motorcycles to vaccinators to enable them to carry out vaccination activities in remote areas.
He said currently 30 percent areas of Uruzgan remained deprived of vaccination as vaccinators could not deliver the vaccine to children in remote parts.
The official said efforts were being made to pave the way for house-to-house vaccination instead of mosque to mosque.
Deputy governor Maulvi Muzamal hoped health centers would provide better services to people after receiving the medicines and medical equipment. He urged aid giving agencies to help expand and standardize health facilities in the province.
