KABUL (Pajhwok): The Biden administration has promised Ukraine continued US security assistance, including advanced air defense systems, CNN reports.
President Joe Biden held out the assurance in a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday.
During the call, which came hours a barrage of Russian missiles struck different Ukrainian cities, Biden denounced the attacks.
A statement from the White House said Biden condemned Russia’s missile strikes across Ukraine, including Kiev, as senseless.
The US would continue providing Ukraine with the support needed to defend itself, including advanced air defence systems, he assured.
A senior administration official was quoted as saying: “We have transferred more than 1,400 Stinger anti-air systems to Ukraine, as well as air surveillance and multi-mission radars…”
Also on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said a massive strike had been inflicted on Ukrainian energy, military command and communications facilities.
