84 more Afghans released from prison in Karachi

KABUL (Pajhwok): Pakistan released another 84 Afghans who had been arrested for lacking legal stay documents in Karachi, the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad said on Wednesday.

Karachi police have arrested dozens of Afghan refugees for staying illegally in the country. Previously 150 Afghans were released after being arrested by Karachi police, thanks to efforts by the Afghan Consul General.

On its twitter page, the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad wrote 84 Afghans were released yesterday as a result of efforts of the Consulate General of Afghanistan in Karachi.

Afghan Consul General in Karachi Syed Abdul Jabbar Takhari, while seeing off the released Afghans, said that he would continue his efforts to get the remaining prisoners released as soon as possible.

However, he did not say how many Afghans remain imprisoned.
