ATLANTIA (Pajhwok): The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says it has doubled activities in Afghanistan this year and plans to keep operations at the same level in 2023.
Eloi Fillion, head of the ICRC delegation in Afghanistan, called on Deputy Foreign Minister Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai here on Tuesday.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi tweeted that Fillion highlighted ICRC activities in Afghanistan. He said the ICRC conducted its second largest operation in Afghanistan after Ukraine.
He added they had doubled their activities in Afghanistan after the fall of the previous government and planned to keep operations at the same level in 2023.
Stanikzai thanked the ICRC for its assistance and called for continued aid to the Afghan people until the country’s economic woes were addressed.
The deputy foreign minister, on behalf of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, promised providing a suitable environment for ICRC operations.
