PARAKH/ATLANTA (Pajhwok): Following reports about human rights violations, UN Special Rapporteur Richard Bennett visited central Panjsher province.
Abu Bakar Sediq, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed Bennett’s visit to Panjsher and his meetings with Governor Mohammad Hasan Hashimi and other local officials.
He said the objective behind the UN rapporteur’s trip was to evaluate the current situation of human rights in the province.
During his meeting with Bennett, the governor renewed the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to protecting human rights in light of Islamic Sharia and the government’s actions over the past year proved that.
The governor insisted there was no opposition to the government in the province. International human rights bodies should not be moved by conspiracy theories in the media, he added.
Hashimi maintained: “Human dignity of all people has been protected. All women, girls and others are living in peace in Panjsher, where primary schools and universities remain open for boys and girls.”
