SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has financed construction of a primary school building for displaced children in Faryab province and a rugs weaving facility in northern Jawzjan province, local officials said on Tuesday.

MawlaviHafizullahMutasemBillah, education department head for Faryab province, told Pajhwok Afghan News the supplementary school building consumed $164,000 provided by UNHCR and the facility for displaced children was inaugurated in Deh Azizan Gozar area of Maimana city.

MutasemBillah added that the annex was built on 600 square meters area.

Haji SaifuddingJehadi, Refugees and Returnees Department head, said that the school building had accommodation rooms for about one thousand students studying in the school.

Relatives of the students were happy and said their children were studying in tents or under trees and had no basic facilities.

In Jawzjan, UNHCR launched construction work of a building for rugs processing facility at a cost of $150,000 in Aqcha district.

ZabihullahZahid, the representative of Abed Afghan Construction Company, said the rugs processing facility was being constructed on 2,000 square meters area.

Zahid said: “The facility is being constructed in Noor Abad area of Aqcha district and it is expected that the facility will generate jobs for 1,200 more people”.

Qari Mohammad Ismael Rasikh, Jawzjan governor, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Packaging, cutting and washing of rugs will be done inside Afghanistan and carpets will be prepared for export to foreign countries”.

As there are no factories to perform the cutting, washing and processing of newly knitted rugs, the rugs are exported to foreign countries with a cheap price, Rasikh said.

He said as Jawzjan, Faryab and Sar-i-Pul provinces were famous for their rugs, the construction of such processing facility would encourage the business.
