KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) said on Monday it viewed the 27th Climate Change Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh as the first step towards finding a solution to climate challenges.
In a statement, the government said: “Since the effects of climate change do not recognise borders, solutions should be independent of political considerations.”
Countries like Afghanistan, which did not contribute to climate change but struggled with its negative effects, should not be ignored, the statement stressed.
This year alone, the government said, Afghanistan has suffered more than $2 billion losses due to the negative effects of climate change.
The IEA stressed compensation for the loss and enhancing resistance of threatened communities to restore economic stability in the country.
The IEA also sought development assistance from the international community, calling the uplift aid necessary in light of national priorities.
