CHARIKAR/ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Internally displaced persons (IDPs), who live in tents in central Parwan and western Nimroz provinces, complain they face miserable circumstances and ask the government and charity organizations to urgently assist them.

The IDPs from Shinwari district of Parwan province say their houses were destroyed in floods and since then they have been living in tents that lack basic services.

Ahmadullah, one of the IDPs from Tai Kamar area of Shinwari district, said his house and farm land were destroyed in floods and he was living in a tent with his 11-member family since four months.

Zar BiBi, another IDP from the same district, said floods swept away all her belongings.

She was concerned about the upcoming winter and asked the government for urgent assistance.

The displaced families from Shinwari district, however, confirmed receiving some financial, food and other assistance, but said their main problem was the lack of shelter.

Deputy governor of Parwan Mohammad Idris Anwari said the flood victims were being paid attention by the government and they had been distributed some assistance. He said the government planned to provide shelter to the IDPs in coordination with some foreign charity organizations.

In Nimroz province, families living in tents complain they have no access to health, education and other services.

They are 50 families who say they have several times approached the governor’s office, the directorate of refugees and rural development departments for assistance, but they are yet to be assisted.

Baz Mohammad, a representative of the IDPs, said all the 50 families were displaced a year ago due to clashes in Mazar-i-Sharif, Kunduz, Faryab and Samangan provinces and they faced hard times in the tents.

He asked the government to send the IDPs urgent aid prior to the arrival of harsh winter season.

Amina Ghafori, a displaced woman, who has been living in a tent since last three years with her five children, said they had no guardian. “I collect leftover food from other families to feed my children. I make 200afs daily.” She urged the government to support her as she could not meet her daily needs.

However, Maulvi Seddiqullah Nasrat, the head of Refugees and Repatriation department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the families living in tents in Nimroz were not IDPs, but it was their type of life and they have been in Nimroz province since years.

But he said his department was committed to providing financial and other assistance to all the families living in tents.

Nimroz province shares border with Iran and many people try to migrate through illegal ways to Iran, but those who fail stay in this province without shelter.
