KABUL (Pajhwok): Thousands of needy families received food and cash assistance in Takhar, Maidan Wardak and Logar provinces, officials said on Tuesday.
Food items were distributed among 10,955 deserving families n Takhar and Maidan Wardak provinces and 1,300 poor families were given cash assistance in Logar.
In two districts of Takhar, food items were distributed to 3500 poor families.
Takhar Rural Development Department officials say 1,500 poor families were given flour, rice, ghee and other items in Yangi Qala district and 2,000 families in Warsaj district by the World Food Program (WFP).
WFP also provided food items to 7,455 needy families in Syedabad district of central Maidan Wardak province on Tuesday, the provincial Rural Rehabilitation and Development department said in a statement.
Each family received 50 kilograms of flour, 4.55 liters of ghee, 6.25 kilograms of pulses and 0.5 kilogram of salt.
In Logar province, 1,300 poor families were distributed cash assistance.
Sibghatullah Naibkhel, the Rural Rehabilitation and Development department spokesman, told Pajhwok each family was given 8500 afghanis. He said similar assistance would be provided to destitute and needy families in the remaining districts of Logar province.
