KABUL (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) announced on Wednesday the arrival of newly printed afghani banknotes in Kabul.
However, the central bank did not put a figure on the amount.
Hasib Noori, deputy spokesman for the central bank, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The money has arrived but partners have not provided us any information about the amount.”
Shah Mohammad Mehrabi, a senior DAB official, had earlier said 10 billion afghanis banknotes printed in Poland would arrive within a month.
Mehrabi had added a contract for the printing of 10 billion afghani banknotes had been inked with a French company.
Earlier, DAB said old banknotes would be collected and the newly printed ones injected into the market under a reasonable monetary policy.
Ned Price, spokesperson for the State Department, recently said the printing of the new afghani banknotes had been facilitated by the US.
Economists say the injection of the newly-printed banknotes will not cause any surge in prices because they are going to replace the old banknotes in the market.
