KABUL (Pajhwok): A 45-year-old woman, Noria, supports her family and her children’s education by cooking and selling bolani on one of Kabul streets.

She is the only woman selling bolani on Kabul street as men usually sell bolani in the city. She sells about 150 bolani a day.

Bolani, also called Periki in Pashtu is a stuffed flat-bread, fried with a filling. It has a thin crust and can be stuffed with a variety of ingredients, such as potatoes or leeks but also graced pumpkin, chives, red lentils or with minced meat.

Noria, a resident of Kart-i-Sakhi area of Kabul, has been cooking and selling bolani in front of the gate of Kabul University for a month now.

Speaking to Pajhwok Afghan News, she said her husband previously sold beverages and water but currently he was helping her in selling bolani.

She made bolani from leeks and potatoes and the majority of her customers ares tudents of Kabul University. Some students praise the deliciousness of bolani cooked by Noria.

Noria has two children who study in second and eighth grades. She says she is striving hard so that her children become educated and have a bright future.

She said she became tired cooking nearly 150 bolani a day but she was happy to support her family through a legitimate earning.

According to Noria, her daily income reaches 400 afghanis but due to high prices of daily use commodities, some days it is not enough for her family’s expenses.

Noria asked the caretaker government and charitable organizations to help women like her.
