KABUL (Pajhwok): Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and the Norwegian chargé d’affaires have discussed humanitarian assistance, Afghanistan’s security, development and other topics.

Abdul Qahar Balkhi, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tweeted that Norwegian diplomat Pavel Kaloman Becker, said his country remained committed to long-term relations with Afghanistan.

The diplomat acknowledged that security had been restored by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and humanitarian assistance was pouring into the country, Balkhi wrote.

Becker said that his country continued to interact with IEA and had named new diplomats to work in Afghanistan and play a positive role in maintaining bilateral ties.

For his part, Muttaqi said: “We should try to bring the world and Afghanistan closer to each other. Norway has good experience and can play a vital role in this regard.”

He believed positive actions of the caretaker government must be appreciated. “We have ensured security. In the past, hundreds of Afghans were killed daily in raids and bombings and displaced.”

Muttaqi claimed insurgents groups had been suppressed and they would not allow anyone to pose a threat to others from Afghanistan’s soil.

“History has proved that using pressure in Afghanistan has not been useful and currently we should move forward in cooperation with each other,” he concluded.
