KABUL (Pajhwok): Around 29,000 less fortunate families in northern Takhan and Baghlan province have been distributed food items while 250 families distributed cash assistance in northwestern Faryab province, officials said on Tuesday.
In Takhar, 1,700 less fortunate families in eight districts had been distributed food items, Samiullah Samimi, spokesperson for the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department said. The aid was provided by the World Food Organization, he added.
The food aid that included — flour, rice and cooking oil — distributed to less fortunate families in Gulfgan, Ashkamish, Chal, Namak Ab, Yangi Qala, Dasht Qala and Hazar Smoch districts. Each family was provided a food package worth over 4,000afs, according to Samimi.
In Baghlan, 12,030 less fortunate families have been distributed food items, families in the Provincial Capital Pul-i-Khumri and Khost, Farang and Guzargha Noor Districts benefited from the aid, Abdul Mateen, directory Baghlan Economy Department said.
Separately, 250 families affected by flood in Faryab province have been provided with cash assistance, Mawlavi Yar Mohammad, coordinator of the Afghan Red Crescent Society said.
He said the cash aid was provided by the Chinese Red Cross.
