TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Over 40 individuals have been awarded slashes punishment in the past one year in northern Takhar province in order to enforced Islamic Sharia Law, an official said on Tuesday.
Takhar Appellant Court Director Mawlavi Mohammad Sabir Hanafi told Pajhwok Afghan News individuals committing crimes such as adultery, robbery and elopement would face Sharia Law punishment.
Hanafi said 19 criminals --- 10 men and nine women --- were awarded 39 lashes punishment each two weeks ago in the Jami Mosque of Taloqan and some criminals were punished during past Eids.
He said the punishment to these individuals awarded after they confessed their crime and it was proven against them.
Hanafi said one of the obligations of the Islamic governments was the implementation of punishment explained by the Sharia Law.
Some Takhar residents welcomed the implementation of Sharia Laws and demanded its enforcement on everyone without discrimination.
Abdul Basir, the resident of Taloqan City, said if Sharia Law punishment is equally enforced the level of crimes will drop and no one would dare to commit a crime
He demanded the enforcement of Sharia Law punishment on all.
