ATLANTA (Pajhwok): Former US Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has warned against surge in violence in Afghanistan unless an inclusive political setup is agreed among Afghans.
In an exclusive interview with Turkish media outlet, Khalilzad said if situation remained the way it is then Afghanistan could plunged into crisis again as it happened in the past.
He stressed lesson needed to be learned from the past.
He expressed concern over restrictions imposed on the education of girls and said: “There are propaganda campaign that the incumbent government may stop girls from attending university as well.”
He asked the current Afghan government not to repeat mistakes committed in the past four decades and agree to talks for an inclusive government.
He stressed the current Afghan leadership should learn a lesson from the past and should not repeat their mistakes.
“In addition to the withdrawal of foreign forces and the fight against terrorism, another important issue in the Doha Agreement has been the establishment of an inclusive government as a result of intra-Afghan negotiations; Therefore, they should discuss among themselves and agree on a process that is broadly representative of the people. If they don't, other Afghans will oppose them, more people will become refugees, violence will increase and conflicts may arise over time.”
Afghan government has not spoken about Khalizad recent interview but in the past it repeatedly said that inclusive peace had been established in the country, everyone is represented in the government and the rights of all people were entitled to their rights under the Islamic Sharia Law.
