KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan have gone one up in the three match One-Day International (ODI) series against hosts Sri Lanka.

In the opener at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Friday, the visitors trounced the islanders by 60 run — thanks to Ibrahim Zadran‘s magnificent century.

Batting first, Afghanistan posted a formidable total of 294 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.

Zadran‘s century, fifties from Rahmat Shah and Rahmanullah Gurbaz and a cameo by Najibullah Zadran were the highlights of Afghanistan’s innings.

Zadran was part of an 84-run opening partnership with Gurbaz and another 118-run stand for the second wicket with Rahmat, reported crickettimes.com.

For Sri Lanka, opener Pathum Nissanka shone with the willow. He hit 85 off 83 deliveries, but the middle-order collapsed.

Wanindu Hasaranga chipped in with a welcome half-century, but the rest of his teammates failed to measure up to the challenge.

Fazalhaq Farooqi finished with four scalps conceding 49 in his nine-over spell, paving the way for Afghanistan’s 60-run victory.
