‘Shurabak electricity rate to be determined soon’

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): The per kilowatt price of electricity generated from Shurabak Dam in northeastern Badakhshan province will be determined and approved by the leadership of the caretaker government soon, an official said.

From the past two years the Shurabak power project produces 5.7MW electricity to around 12,000 families in Faizabad City and surrounding areas.

According to local officials, Mullah Mohammad Esa Sani, deputy minister of energy and water and Mawlavi Mohammad Hanif Hamza, head of the Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat have visited Badakhshan province to determine the rate of Shurabak electricity.

Badakhshan Cultural Department Spokesperson Maazuddin Ahmadi said the purpose of the delegation’s trip was to investigate the economic challenges, the lack of light in the houses of the residents of Faizabad, the protection of the Shurabek substation, and other problems of the people.

He said the delegation heard public problems closely and would share them with authorities in the centre.

The Shurabak Dam was inaugurated two years ago but the consumer did not pay their electricity dues due to unknown reasons.
