3 dead, 24 wounded in Quetta suicide bombing

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Three people were killed in a suicide attack in ​​Quetta, the capital if southwestern Balochistan province, on Wednesday morning.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ghulam Azfar Mahesar said 24 individuals, including 20 policemen, were injured in the bombing in Baleli area.

At least three vehicles — the police truck, a Suzuki Mehran and a Toyota Corolla — were damaged by the powerful explosion.

The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack, which comes a day after the militant group called off its ceasefire with the government.

The fatalities included a policeman and a civilian. The DIG estimated up to 25 kilograms of explosives were used in the suicide attack.

Geo News reported the injured were evacuated to the Quetta Civil Hospital. Following the explosion, police and bomb disposal squad officials rushed to the scene.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Abdul Haq Umrani told Dawn.com that investigations were ongoing.

A day earlier, the army claimed the security forces had killed 10 terrorists during an operation in the province.

The operation was conducted to clear a hideout of terrorists involved in attacks on security forces and civilians, the Inter-Services Public Relations said.
