Japan Embassy: Dr. Nakamura’s projects to continue

KABUL (Pajhwok): Marking the third death anniversary of Tetsu Nakamura, the Japanese Embassy in Kabul on Sunday said projects the physician initiated in Afghanistan would be continued by his Afghan and Japanese colleagues.

Tetsu Nakamura, also known as Kaka Murad, was a Japanese physician and honorary Afghan citizen who headed Peace Japan Medical Services (PMS), an aid group known as Peshawar-kai in Japanese.

He was killed along with his five Afghan colleagues in an armed attack in Jalalabad city, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, on December 4, 2019, exactly three years ago.

Nakamura spent about 25 years serving the Afghans, initially treating Afghan refugees in Peshawar before coming to Afghanistan. He did a lot of work to irrigate agricultural lands in Nangarhar’s Dara Noor, Kama and Behsud districts.

The Japanese Embassy in Kabul wrote on its Twitter page that today was the third death anniversary of Dr. Nakamura. The embassy said although Nakamura had unfortunately died, his projects would be continued by his Japanese and Afghan collegues.

“Japan will continue to assist the Afghan people. We want to take his projects to other parts of Afghanistan, his soul never dies."

Nakamura was commemorated after his death, medals were named after him, movies were made and books were written about his life.
