PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): An attempt at smuggling foreign-made arms and ammunition into Pakistan has been foiled in Torkham, officials say.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Collector Muhammad Salim claimed Customs authorities seized the weapons on Wednesday.

The arms seized were shown to media people at a news briefing. The action was taken on the basis of a tip-off, the official said.

Salim told reporters the Customs personnel stopped a pomegranate-laden truck (E-3657) in Torkham as it entered into Pakistan from Afghanistan.

Customs officials searched the vehicle and recovered 16 US-made automatic rifles and 15,000 bullets. The arms are worth more than Rs40 million.
