TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Police uniform distribution process has been launched in central Uruzgan province as per directives of the Ministry of Interior, an official said on Saturday.

Uruzgan police chief Mullah Abdullah Bashir told Pajhwok Afghan News that now security personnel would perform duty in uniform so that people could differentiate between police and irresponsible gunmen.

He said with distribution of uniform, crimes would reduce and people would cooperate with security personnel more than before.

Uruzgan Governor Maulvi Muhammad Ali Jan Ahmad also said police performance would improve after being equipped with uniform.

He said now security personnel could not search anyone in private clothes or perform other security activities. He asked the security personnel to perform their duty well.

Police official, Karimullah, a resident of Dehrawud district, said he was happy to wear uniform and perform his duty.

Mohammad Sabir, a resident of Tirinkot city, told Pajhwok that equipping police personnel with uniform was a good step. However, he asked the government to train security forces to behave professionally.

More than 2,000 security personnel are performing duty in Tirinkot and districts of Uruzgan.
