PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A volleyball tournament featuring 15 teams commenced in this capital city of central Logar province on Sunday.
Logar Information and Culture director Rafiullah Samim told Pajhwok Afghan News the tournament titled “Intellectual Integration” was organized at the provincial level in coordination with Sports Authority.
He said the tournament was aimed at creating intellectual unity and harmony among the youth and to indulge them in healthy activities.
He said the provincial administration was trying to provide the youth with opportunities in education, cultural and sports fields in all districts, including Pul-i-Alam.
Deputy head of the Logar Olympic administration Muzammil Naeemzai told Pajhwok the volleyball tournament involving 15 best teams would continue for three weeks. He said gifts would be to the first, second and third place winning teams.
Karimullah, one of the players, told Pajhwok it was the first time that a volleyball competition was being held in Logar. He said similar events should be organized in districts as well.
Earlier, the Olympic Committee of Logar organized Wushu or Kung Fu competitions featuring athletes from 22 provinces in Pul-i-Alam.
