KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Information and Culture is determined to improve the public library in Kabul and increase the number of books in the facility, an official said on Monday.

This was stated by deputy director of broadcasting of the Ministry of Information and Culture Muhajer Farahi during a visit to the Kabul public library.

The ministry on twitter page quoted Farahi as saying: “We are determined to enrich the public library of Kabul even more.”

He said a large collection of books existed in the library where the number of books would be increased and book publishers had promised help in this regard.

Director of public libraries Qari Obaidullah Hanif said a lot of work had been done to improve the Kabul library since the Islamic Emirate’s return to power.

He said they collected 10,000 more books and also dispatched 10,000 additional books to public libraries in provinces during the period.

“We have the intention to purchase three million more books for this library, currently thousands of books exist in the facility and anyone can read them.”

The Kabul public library is located in Malik Asghar square next to Istiqlal High School and is considered one of the oldest libraries in the country.
