Volunteer repatriation of Afghan refugees discussed in Iran meeting: MoRR

KABUL (Pajhwok): Four-party meeting on Afghan refugees in Iran agreed that Afghanistan should provide initial facilities for the repatriation of its migrants, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) said.

On its Twitter handle the ministry wrote the eight meeting on Afghan refugees was held in Tehran on December 12 in Tehran.

In this meeting, there was a discussion and exchange of views on how the United Nations supports the voluntary return of Afghan immigrants to Afghanistan and their sustainable reintegration in Afghanistan, as well as support to the host countries of Afghan immigrants.

Sadiq Raza Dost, a senior refugee’s affairs official of Iranian government, said the main focus of the meeting was the volunteer return of Afghan refugees to their country.

Tansim News quoted him as saying: “In this meeting, it was decided that Afghanistan should provide the necessary preparations and conditions for the voluntary return of Afghan refugees to this country.”

The meeting hosted by Iran held on 12, 13 December and discussed The situation of Afghan immigrants and refugees in Iran and Pakistan as well as how to reach and serve them have been discussed and exchanged.

Earlier, Acting Deputy Minister for Refugees and Repatriation Mawlavi Abdul Rahman Rashid, said the meeting will discuss matters related to Afghan refugees in Iran and Pakistan and a mechanism may be agreed regarding their repatriation.

He said currently, 2.3 million Afghan refugees lived in Pakistan and as many in Iran.

He added security situation in Afghanistan had improved and Afghan refugees could return to their country and continue a normal life.
