Iran asked to provide basic facilities to Afghan refugees

KAABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Refugees Minister Khalil-ur-Rahman Haqqani has asked Iran to provide education, health and drinking water facilities for Afghan refugees.

During a meeting with Deputy Iranian Ambassador Haqqani hailed Iran for hosting Afghan refugees.

“Haqqani expressed his gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran for hosting Afghan immigrants in that country and requested to provide them with more facilities in the fields of education, health, drinking water and other basic needs,” according to the ministry’s twitter handle.

He said after the establishment of Islamic system in Afghanistan corruption and smuggling eradicated and it was in the interest of the neighbouring country as well.

Martazavi assured of Iran continued support and the provision of basic facilities to Afghan refugees.

Recently a four party meeting on Afghan refugees has been held in Iran that discussed the volunteer repatriation of Afghan refugees in Iran and Pakistan.

Acting Deputy Minister for Refugees and Repatriation Mawlavi Abdul Rahman Rashid, said the meeting will discuss matters related to Afghan refugees in Iran and Pakistan and a mechanism may be agreed regarding their repatriation.

He said currently, 2.3 million Afghan refugees lived in Pakistan and as many in Iran.

He added security situation in Afghanistan had improved and Afghan refugees could return to their country and continue a normal life.
