Bereaved Qazi tells how he lost wife, children in 2011 airstrike

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Mohammad Qazi, 70, the resident of northern Takhar province has lost all his family members — wife, three children — in an airstrike during the past conflict and his only wish was stable and peaceful Afghanistan.

Hailing from the Khawaja Ghar district of Takhar, Qazi was unable to tell us the painful story that how he lost all his family members due to the intensity of the grief and the emotions that were uncontrollable.

But still he refreshed his throat time and again and said: “It was the fall of 2011, me, my wife and our three children were eating lunch when we heard a horrific sound. I lost my senses and started feeling uneasy like that I was injured. I felt unconscious and my brother shifted me to a hospital in Kunduz. When I opened my eyes, I asked my brother that what happened to my family, he said all are good and don’t worry, but the story was reverse, I lost my family in the airstrike and was unable to take part in their burial and funeral because I was injured in my back and legs and was under treatment. ”

Bereaved Qazi said after 50 days when I went to my house there was no noise of his children and was not seeing his wife. Nobody called him daddy and his wife was not there to welcome him who always removed all his tiredness gave him a fresh breath.

He said the situation was horrible said: “I had three kids and a merciful wife, Oh! Allah where are they and where did they gone. My mother tried to calm me down and said that Hakim — my elder son went to the neighbours house and will come but I felt they are no more in this world.”

“After knowing from neighbours that a bomb was dropped on my house in which my wife and three children were killed then I migrated to the Dash-i-Archi district of Kunduz.”

He said from the past few years he has been in living alone in a corner of Taloqan City.

He complained against the past government and aid providing organization and said no organ provided him with the aid so far and was dealing with economic problems alone.

Elderly Qazi expressed happiness over the improved security situation in the country and said through his radio sometimes he heard the news of violence which is bothering for him.

He said sometimes her listen to the news from his radio and hoped that when people talk about peace it make him pleasant and hopeful.

When asked about his dream, he said: “I am 70, the entire life I heard about fighting, displacement and victimization. My only dream is that peace should be established and nobody else in Afghanistan should lose their family members.”

In the past, Takhar’s Khawaja Ghar district witnessed heavy fighting and people became victims of violence and war.

With regime change a relative peace had been established and that made people hopeful and optimistic.
