Swedish Committee constructs school building in Ghazni

GHAZNI (Pajhwok): A school building has been constructed in the Jaghori district of southern Ghazni province at a cost of 18 million afghanis provided by the Swedish Committee, an official said.

Abdul Baqi Younasi, education and training head of the committee, told Pajhwok Afghan News the single-storey building for Noor Abad School in Loman Dara area was constructed on 1.5 acres of land in two years.

He said about 400 students, including girls, enrolled in the school attended classes in two shifts.

The new building has 12 classrooms, one administration room, a laboratory and a computer lab, he added.

Provincial education director Mohammad Munir told Pajhwok that most schools in Ghazni city and districts lacked buildings, hampering the education process.

However, he said they were trying to gradually resolve the issue in cooperation with aid giving organizations.

A local elder, Mohammad Hassan, told Pajhwok before construction of the school building students studied in tents and under trees in warm weather and would not come to the school rainy days.

He was happy that children from almost 15 villages were provided with a proper study environment.

But he asked related institutions to solve other problems including lack of teaching materials, textbooks and professional teachers.
