SHEBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Acting Agriculture Minister Mawlavi Attaullah Umari has pledged to develop agriculture sector in northern Jawzjan province and take back usurped lands.
“We already have some plans for the development, growth and expansion of agricultural sector,” he said.
There are vast lands in the northern parts of the country which just need some investment in its irrigation sector, Omari added.
The Agriculture Ministry is committed to implement its development plans in the upcoming year, he added: “Agriculture Ministry has covered 99 percent of the farmers under its seeds distribution program, and this scheme will further expand next year”.
During the past two decades the ministry of agriculture was neglected and most of governmental lands were usurped by the powerful individuals while they were unmarked as well, he said. The government will take action for the recovery of the usurped lands.
Qari Mohammad Ismael Rashikh, the acting governor of Jawzjan, admired the agricultural ministry’s plan for the development of agricultural sector and added, there were vast lands that only need irrigation.
“Currently the farmers keep their fingers crossed for Qush Tepa canal which is under work in some parts of both Kunduz and Balkh provinces” Rasikh said.
This canal will finally end its long trip in Andkhoy district of Jawzjan province which will then change that area into a bucket of food, Rasikh added.
Mawlawi Gul Mohammad, the deputy of governor and some other officials suggested the usurped lands to be recovered back to the government where many opportunities for the investment will also be generated.
Most of the advantages of the usurped lands, during the past four decades have been poured into the pockets of individuals, they added.
