KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs Maulvi Abdul Kabir says the caretaker government is not against girls’ education and is trying to urgently remove the ban on it.
The Higher Education Ministry banned women’s higher education on Dec 20 until further notice, asking public and private universities to implement the cabinet’s decision with immediate effect.
Kabir held out the assurance at a meeting with Gul Rahman and other representatives of the Private Universities Union on Sunday.
The Government Media and Information Centre quoted Gul Rahman as saying that a real Islamic government was the demand of all Afghans. He pledged solid support to the caretaker government for creating a strong and stable system.
He added private universities had invested under critical circumstances in educating Afghans and leading the country towards development.
The university officials urged the government to reopen schools and universities for girls and shared their suggestions in this regard.
Kabir called Afghanistan home to all Afghans, saying everyone reserved the right to express their views and float positive suggestions.
