Riyadh, Islamabad want Afghan women’s rights guaranteed

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have underlined the importance of guaranteeing Afghan women’s rights and their equal participation in all aspects of life.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud conferred on recent developments in Afghanistan.

During a phone call on Monday, the foreign ministers stressed the importance of guaranteeing Afghan women’s rights and their full participation in all aspects of life.

The Foreign Office in Islamabad said the two sides also renewed their support for security, stability and peace in Afghanistan.

They also stressed the imperative of international engagement on building a more sustainable future for the Afghan people.

The caretaker Taliban government has suspended university and higher education for Afghan women, besides barring them from working for local and foreign NGOs.
