PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A government committee tasked to retrieve grabbed lands recovered 25 acres of state land in central Logar province in the past six months, an official said on Wednesday.
Agriculture Department Spokesperson Shahidullah Hamraz told Pajhwok Afghan News the Committee to retrieve grabbed state lands started functioning six months ago.
It was comprised of representatives from Agriculture Department, Urban Affairs Department, Appellant Court, Lang Registration Authority, Municipality and Police.
He said the committee retrieved 25 acres of state land in provincial capital Pul-i-Alam, Mohammad Agha, Khwashi, Baraki Barak, Charkh, Kharwar and Azra districts.
He added around 70 people were also arrested in connection to land grabbing, these people were released following mediation by tribal elders.
The residents of Pul-i-Alam and districts welcomed the move and demanded its extension to other parts of the province as well.
Basharat, the resident of Pul-i-Alam, told Pajhwok Afgha News the committee should retrieve grabbed lands in Pul-i-Alam and then move to the districts.
He said currently hundreds acres of land in Pul-i-Alam grabbed by powerful individuals and people had built houses on it.
Jumma Din, a tribal elder in the Baraki Barak district, told Pajhwok Afghan News government process should be implemented in all areas and individual who present reference and other tactics should be prevented.
He said land grabbers should be punished and fined according to the law and homes constructed on grabbed land should be removed.
