TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Unidentified people have set alight community school classes of kids in the Khas Uruzgan district of central Uruzgan province.
Ehsanullah Hammas, the governor’s spokesman confirmed the incident, said that a number of community classes were torched in some villages during night in Khas Uruzgan district.
He did not specify the number of burnt classes but a delegation combined from intelligence department and police headquarters had reached to the area and investigating the incident.
Maulvi Haqyar, head of the district education, told Pajhwok Afghan News that two local classes had been torched in Kala Khor area last week and two more burnt in Nekrozo area four days ago.
He said dozens of children (girls and boys) were studying in these classes and funded by Children in Crisis organization.
He said they had no idea who torched the classes.
However, the residents of the district showed the number of torched classes to 10.
A resident of the district, who declined to be named, said: “In the past few days during nights 10 such classes have been torched in Kotzi, Nekrizo, Chahar Asyab and Shekha village of the district by unidentified individuals.”
Abdul Raziq, one of the teachers of these classes told Pajhwok the incident had sparked concerns among residents.
He urged the officials to identified the perpetrators and gave them severe punishment.
But Hamidullah Ahmadzai, head of the school project in Uruzgan, denied the burning of 10 schools. The carpet of one classroom was torched due to negligence of the house owner and the teacher.
