KABUL (Pajhwok): The US Department of State has said that Pakistan had the right to defend its self from terrorism and asked the acting Afghan government to uphold commitment they had mad that their soil would never be used as a Launchpad for international terrorist attacks.
At a press briefing on Tuesday, the US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said: “The Pakistani people have suffered tremendously from terrorist attacks. Pakistan has a right to defend itself from terrorism,”
“These are among the very commitments that the Taliban have been unable or unwilling to fulfill to date,” he added.
Earlier, Pakistan’s National Security meeting asked Afghanistan’s rulers — without directly naming them — to deny safe haven to Pakistani terrorist groups on its soil and end their patronage, while reiterating its intent to crush terrorist groups operating inside the country with full force.
Pakistan Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah also warned if Afghanistan failed to act against TTP bases in in Afghanistan, Pakistan might target them on its own.
But, the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ (IEA) has urged Pakistan to refrain from provoking statements and stressed over the resolution of problems through dialogue.
Acting IEA Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid on hit Twitter handle wrote “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan wants peaceful relations with all its neighboring countries, including Pakistan and believes in all the ways that can lead to achieve this goal.”
He added: “We are committed to this goal, but the Pakistani side also has a responsibility to resolve the situation, avoid baseless talks and provocative ideas, because such talks and mistrust are not in the interest of any side.”
The IEA spokesperson said: “As the Islamic Emirate values peace and stability in Afghanistan, it wants peace and stability for the entire region and continues its efforts in this regard.”
