Badakhshan landslide: 3 workers yet to rescued

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Some workers have been buried under soil as a result of a landslide incident in the gold reserve site in the Yawan district of northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Friday.

Maazuddin Ahmadi, Information and Cultural Affairs Director, said: “There was a landslide occurred in a gold mining site in the Khirabad area of Yawan on Thursday afternoon. At least three workers still under mud and there are hopes that they will be alive.”

He said rescue teams had been dispatched to the site.

Ahmadi said the incident happened before overnight earthquake and had no link with the earthquake.

But Mohammad Nasir Mujtaba, the resident of locality told Pajhwok Afghan News, the incident happened on Thursday evening and at least eight people were still under debris and mud.

He said two workers were rescued while few others were still under mud.
