MAHMOOD RAQI (Pajhwok): Ulmema in central Kapesa province have declared dowry 150,000 afs and decided that Mehar should be decided by the two wedding parties.
The decision was announced in the presence of hundreds of religious ulemas in the Hisa-i-Awal Kohistan district Jami Mosque by the Ulema and Elders Council.
Mawlavi Abdul Matin Saeed, The administrative chief of Kohistan district, said dowry for virgin girls is set 150,000 afs while for widows 80,000 afs and the groom family is not bound to pay any further charges.
“It is decided that other events such are engagement, Eidi, Barati, Chashti, Salgard, Shab-i-Hina and Paiwazi are banned.”
The meeting also took decision. “Food should not be eaten in a house where a member is died and the neighbors should provide them with reasonable food.”
In addition, prayer carpet, clothes and sets of holy Quran and other things should not be carried with the funeral.
The ulema stressed individual violating the council’s decisions would be fined 150,000 afs.
Saeed said: “The decision has been issued by the Ulema Council today and is applicable from today.”
Local residents have welcomed government decision regarding dowry and other social customs.
Sher Padsha, a tribal elder in Hisa-i-Awal Kohistan, said this decision was in the interest of the people and all people should take part in its implementation.
