50 stranded passengers rescued on Ghor-Kabul highway

FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Around 50 passengers stranded in snow on the Ghor-Kabul highway in western Ghor province have been rescued, but the road remains shut for traffic.

Zia-ul-Haq Jandullah, Ghor transport department head, told Pajhwok Afghan News due to heavy snowfall, the Ghor-Kabul highway had been closed since last two days.

However, 140 passengers travelling to Ghor from Yakawlang district of neighboring Bamyan province were stuck and had to return, he added.

“Yesterday till late at night, public works loaders worked in Kotal-i-Bekak and managed to open the road. Three to four cars coming Ghor informed us about 50 other passengers stranded.”

However, he said after the 50 passengers were rescued, the road was closed again due to heavy snowfall and storm.

He added snow clearing teams available at the site were striving to reopen the road for traffic after dawn and rescue all passengers stuck in Yakwlang district of Bamyan.

He asked drivers not to travel on the route because of possible snowstorm.
