KABUL (Pajhwok): As many as 24,276 beggars have been rounded up in capital Kabul since August last year, the office of Deputy Prime Minister for economic affairs said.
The beggars’ collection process began on 13th of August, 2022.
The office of the deputy Prime Minister for economic affairs in a statement said the collected individuals included 2947 male beggars. Of them 1072 were deserving and 1,875 were habitual beggars.
The statement said these individuals included 1,602 women and of them 4,988 deserved assistance while 6,614 were professional beggars.
Among the collected beggars, 9,727 were children and 3,637 of them deserved assistance, 6,022 others were habitual and 68 children were without guardians.
“The child beggars who had no guardians were sent to orphanages of the Ministry of Public Works and Social Affairs after their biometric registration to study and live in there,” the statement said.
“All deserving beggars will get assistance of the Islamic Emirate regularly,” the statement added, however the statement did not did not specify an amount of the assistance.
The office the deputy Prime Minister for economic affairs on 27th of December said since the beginning of the process, 22,125 beggars were collected from Kabul city.
