2 Kunar families reconcile ending 20-year old feud

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Two families in the Dangam district of eastern Kunar province have ended their 20 years old feud and reconciled with the mediation of tribal Jirga.

Four people from Masoud and Ajab Khan’s families had been killed as a result of this enmity that turned violent after verbal clash.

Azizurrahman, the member of a reconciliatory Jirga, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The two families indulged in dispute some 20 years ago over debt issue which turned violent and four people from both side were killed over the years.”

As a result of the efforts of reconciliatory Jirga, both sides forgive one another and promised that they will live peacefully in the environment of brotherhood.

According to the decision of Jirga every family that violated the reconciliation agreement will face boycott from the villagers in every field of life.

Deputy Governor Kunar Province Abdullah Haqqani was also the member of reconciliation team. He said: “It was the responsibility of elders and influential persons in society help reconcile among disputing families and provide the environment of peaceful live hood.”

According to Haqqani security situation had improved nationwide, adding that efforts were on to end dispute and issues among people in Kunar province.

Members of the disputed families who reconciled also expressed happiness over their reconciliation.

Ajab Khan said: “I welcome the decision of tribal elders because the continuation of enmity served nobody interest. Two members of my family had died in this enmity.”

He said now he was happy on reconciliation and they will be able to live a comfortable life.

Masoud, the member of another side, said during 20 years of enmity they lost two members of their family, adding that he was happy on the reconciliation.

“Enmity results in catastrophe while conciliation brings prosperity. I am happy with the reconciliation,” he said.

He asked all people to refrain from enmity and live a peaceful live.

This comes that last year in May, two families in Asadabad, the capital of eastern Kunar province, reconciled after 30 years of enmity.
