LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Electricity from the Kajaki hydropower dam has been reconnected to southern Helmand and Kandahar provinces.
Maulvi Mohammad Qasim Riyaz, Helmand information and culture director, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “The Kajaki hydropower network was inactive for sometime due to lack of water in the dam, but it resumed operation today (Thursday) and the electricity was reconnected.”
He said water level in the Kajaki dam had not increased yet, but due to the cold weather and considering people’s problem, the leaders decided to reconnect the electricity to Lashkargah and Kandahar city for a short period of time.
According to him, the cold spell has reached Helmand and Kandahar so the officials decided to reconnect the electricity and if the water level increased later, the electricity supply would continue.
“Electricity is supplied from 8:00am until 4:00pm,” he explained.
