MoD helicopters rescue 23 people stranded in snow

KABUL (Pajhwok): Ministry of Defense (MoD) helicopters rescued 23 people trapped in snow in northern Jawzjan and western Herat provinces, the ministry said on Thursday.

The MoD tweeted some people stranded in snow in different provinces were rescued by helicopters.

Five passenger vehicles had been stranded in the Walang area of Salang district in snow and they were rescued by the 313 military corps personnel.

Meanwhile, 14 individuals stuck in snow in the Faizabad district of Jawzjan province were rescued by MI-17 helicopter, the source informed.

On the other hand, in Herat, nine individuals, including four Iranian engineers, were rescued by a helicopter, the ministry added.

The MoD said the four Iranian engineers had gone to Herat for technical assessment of the Khwaf-Herat railway track and were stuck in snow.

The engineers were rescued in cooperation with the ministry and the railway authority.

The Afghanistan Railway Authority also tweeted four Iranian engineers and five other people who had been trapped in Herat due to heavy snow were rescued by MoD helicopters.
