Uruzgan governor wants legal cases accessed on time

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): The governor of central Uruzgan province has asked justice and judicial bodies to take necessary steps to ensure timely disposal of legal cases.

Addressing a coordination meeting with officials of detective, security, justice and judicial departments here, Governor Maulvi Ali Jan Ahmad said justice and judicial organs should access cases of people referred to them on time as it would boost the trust in rulers.

He also asked security officials to bring to the courts individuals who the courts had ordered to appear before them on time.

In the meeting, officials of justice and judicial bodies said most of the litigants were those whose cases remained unaddressed for years in the past.

Uruzgan Court of Appeal head Sheikh Sakhidad said that all judicial organs in the provincial capital and districts were operational and accessed dozens of cases on a daily basis.

He said he had tried to provide early access to people’s cases, but most parties involved in the cases did not appear on time and it led to wastage of time.

He said they had always visited prisons in Tirinkot and districts and ordered the release of prisoners whose jail terms had been reduced or who had committed petty crimes.

Uruzgan police chief Mullah Abdullah Bashir said he cooperated with judicial institutions and had always timely produced the people ordered by the courts to appear.

He said he had directed security officials to increase their cooperation with the justice and judicial organs.

The meeting comes after some residents of Uruzgan complained their cases were not addressed on time.
