JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The municipality has launched concrete work on a sub-road and on both sides of a canal along the road at a cost of nearly 12 million afghanis in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Wednesday.
Officials say the construction of the one kilometer sub-road and the two-kilometer canal in Qasimabad Township in eighth municipality district will take four months to complete.
Jalalabad Municipality spokesman Bakhtijan Murad told Pajhwok Afghan News the road project would consume 11.9 million afghanis funded by the municipality.
Tens of men would be provided with work opportunity in construction of the sub-road, he added.
Local residents are happy over the launch of the project and demanded that much attention should be paid to its quality.
Sayed Rahim, a tribal elder in Qasimabad area, said hundreds of families lived in the area and they encountered many hardships due to the unpaved sub-road.
He said problems of the people would be resolved with construction of the sub-road, but asked the municipality to pay much heed to its quality.
Municipality officials said they would closely monitor the road’s construction affairs and called on residents to cooperate with them in this regard.
