KABUL (Pajhwok): Germany has welcomed a high-level United Nations delegation’s ongoing visit to Afghanistan as a unique opportunity.
Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the UN, told a press conference in New York the delegation would hold discussions about the rights of women with representatives of the Islamic Emirate.
The UN delegation, which arrived in Kabul on Tuesday, includes Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and Sima Bahous, executive secretary of UN Women.
The Germany embassy in Kabul tweeted: “We welcome the visit of UN deputy SG Amina Mohammad to #Afghanistan. A unique opportunity to discuss and agree on policies that would benefit the Afghan people.”
“No country could thrive with half of its population excluded from public life and the economy,” the embassy wrote.
Last month, the IEA banned women from working for non-governmental organisations (NGOs), a decision that triggered harsh reactions from the international community.
