KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy prime minister for administrative affairs Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi has called on the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to help the Islamic Emirate in treating drug addicts.
The Office of the Prime Minister on its twitter page said Hanafi during a meeting with IRC international affairs deputy head Medlin appreciated IRC humanitarian services in the country.
Hanafi told the IRC official that the Afghans, who suffered from nearly half century of war, insecurity and historic winter, needed more humanitarian assistance.
Humanitarian assistance and aid must not be linked to politics, Hanafi said.
He said besides other issues the addicts were one of the problems of this society and it was the duty of the Islamic Emirate to address the issue.
He asked IRC to help the Islamic Emirate in collecting the addicts for their treatment.
Mrs.Medlin, the IRC international affairs deputy head, on this occasion said IRC has been involved since many years in humanitarian issues of several countries including Afghanistan.
She added IRC, after the political change of August 15, 2021, continued its humanitarian involvement in the country.
She asked for cooperation of the Islamic Emirate to continue to help Afghans in different spheres of life.
She further added that the committee has 8,700 workers including men and women in Afghanistan.
“The people of Afghanistan are in need of more assistance and cooperation in the current situation, we need the cooperation of Islamic Emirate to reach needy people,” Medlin added.
