KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW) says work on the Shah wa Arus Dam will be completed by next spring.
The dam is located in the Shakar Dara district of Kabul and its construction had started 10 years ago. It was expected to complete in two years.
The Government Media and Information Centre quoted the ministry as tweeting that 97 percent of work on the dam had been completed. The remaining work will be done next year.
Besides irrigating 3,600 hectares of agricultural land, the dam will have the capacity to generate 1.2 megawatts of electricity.
The plan for supplying water to Kabul from the dam has been evaluated.
The Kabul Water Supply Company says it is ready to deliver water to the city as soon as the construction of the dam is finished.
