KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): The visiting high-level United Nations delegation on Thursday travelled to southern Kandahar province and discussed various issues with local officials.
Led by UN deputy secretary general Amina Mohammad, the delegation met with deputy Kandahar governor Maulvi Hayatullah Mubarak and some other officials.
Kandahar governor’s spokesman Haji Zaid told Pajhwok Afghan News Amina Mohammad assured her interlocutors that the world’s body was trying to improve and strengthen the relations of the Islamic Emirate with other countries.
She said the UN provided humanitarian assistance to 23 million Afghans last year and was committed to providing humanitarian aid to even more Afghans this year.
Haji Zaid quoted Amina Mohammad as saying: "We are committed to improving and strengthening the relations of the Islamic Emirate with the world and international countries with all our strength. We are also committed to continuing our humanitarian aid in Afghanistan.”
For his part, Maulvi Hayatullah Mubarak said the Islamic Emirate had ensured peace and security across Afghanistan. He said there was a unified leadership and civilian casualties had declined to zero and narcotics, moral and administrative corruption had been wiped out.
The deputy governor said: "The Islamic Emirate desires economic, social, scientific and other relations with the world and all countries and assures that the Afghan soil will not be used against anyone and also requested the UN deputy secretary general to give the Afghanistan seat in the UN to the Islamic Emirate.”
The Kandahar officials also called for dropping the names of Taliban leaders from the UN blacklist and urged continued relations between the UN and the Islamic Emirate.
